Join OMSA as we present a conversation with our OMSA Alumnus Abdul Dosunmu, AB‘13, and Interim Director of the University Community Service Center, Shaz Rasul to discuss the power of movement building in 2022. Abdul will share lessons learned his from own experience building the Young Black Lawyers’ Organizing Coalition (YBLOC), a network of young Black lawyers and law students who are working to protect and empower Black electoral voice. Participants will engage with concepts of power and positionality, community-centered organizing, and identity empowerment as they learn about Abdul’s approach to movement building. 

Abdul Dosunmu is the Founder and Chief Strategist of the Young Black Lawyers’ Organizing Coalition (YBLOC), a network of young Black lawyers and law students who are working to protect and empower Black electoral voice. Formerly an appointee of President Barack Obama to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Abdul served as Special Assistant to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony R. Foxx and Advisor to the Department’s Chief of Staff. He received his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 2013 and his J.D. from NYU School of Law in 2020. Abdul has provided public commentary on democracy for CBS News, BuzzFeed, NowThis, Univision, Roland Martin Unfiltered, and the Chicago Tribune.
