The mission of the Black Convocation is to expose the richness and breadth of the Black community on the UChicago campus to incoming undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students. We aim to highlight, celebrate, and establish the culture and expectations of our community at the onset of each academic year.

Black Convocation 2023: Homecoming! is all about celebrating our heritage, achievements, and the incredible individuals who make our community thrive. Join us as we come together to embrace our shared culture and create lasting connections.

The dress code for the event is formal, all-white attire.

Speakers for this year's ceremony include:

  • Community Speaker: Shenita Muse
  • Faculty Speaker: Professor Adam Green
  • Student Speaker: Jordyn Varise

With performances by:

  • Ankara Magic
  • Josh Nkhata
  • The UChicago Black Choir

Following the program, join us for a light reception at the Cloister Club in Ida Noyes Hall from 2:30-4:30pm.
